Do you collect, buy or sell Mexican Republican gold coins? If so let me ask you ten important questions about Mexican Republic gold coins?
What is a Recap Report and Why Is It Important?
Having a long computer background and a great interest in Mexican Republic Gold Coins has allowed me to computerize many sales records for the individual Mexican Republic Gold Coins I have found in my 25 years of research work. Originally, I started the process by accumulating sales records for the 8 Reales and 8 Escudos only, but several years ago I decided to collect data for other gold coins from the Republic Period, including the entire Escudo and Peso series on the advice of the highly respected coin dealer Rick Ponterio.
More than one person had asked that I make this important data available to everyone and not wait until my books are completed! This is a difficult and time consuming task, but in 2002 the more I thought more about it I liked the idea. At this time I decided to make copies of my original recap reports, I use almost daily, available to those collectors and dealers who really want and need them.
These recap reports are not cheap, nor was the original data I used to find them inexpensive or easy to find! I have amassed well over 4,000 copies of sales catalogs, magazines and numismatic publications going back to the 1870s from which these records were found. Also be aware I currently purchase any and all new and old coin auction catalogs, fixed price lists, and periodicals with Mexican Republic Gold Coin sales not in my reference collection.
Some may ask:
These sales records can give numismatists interested in Mexican Republic gold coins a great help understanding a term I use almost daily … “The True Rarity” of the Mexican Republic coins.
While not the complete answer, these recap reports are a step in the right direction for anyone collecting, buying or selling these important series of coins, especially when one questions their availability and value today.
Many times I hear, or see in print what some express as the rarity and value of these individual coins by Date/Assayer/Mintmark or DAMs, as I refer to them. Many, if not most of these experts have little, or no idea if what they are stating is correct or not!
Many of the gold coins from the Mexican Republic Period are extremely rare, while others are common for these coins, yet very few people seem to know the difference today! I have wondered why for many years? There is only one answer…
Little good data has been published recently about these fascinating coins!
However, today’s price guides are a joke when it comes to pricing most Mexican Republic gold coins. Furthermore no one publishes a complete list today that indicates which coins have not been publicly sold! This offering is the first true population study offered publicly, that is printed in an easy to use Recap Format that allows you to use it at auctions, coin shows, club meetings and daily in your home or office.
Yes, I know you may be skeptical about the importance of this data and its format. Therefore I suggest you study the first page of the recap for the ˝ Escudos from the Culiacan mint.
I’m sure your biggest question is: Are these sales records complete? No, they are not! And they never will be because every month I find old catalogs having one or more coins in them, plus almost monthly there are new sales, making this an ongoing project. In addition there are large numbers of Private Treaty sales by the old and current dealers to which I will never have access, but this cannot be helped. Nonetheless, I have spent thousands of dollars and hours buying and pouring through these catalogs, books and numismatic publications getting to this point.
Today, we offer these recaps to one and all that feel they need and want them. Furthermore, we are planning at least one update every year for those who see the value in this project and are willing to pay for them!
Take a few moments to look at the sample and the order form. If this is something you need, I only accept checks or money orders for this data. Please note that all personal or company checks must clear my bank before shipment unless, I know you personally.
If you don’t collect, or buy and sell Mexican Republic gold coins then this offering is of little or no consequence to you. But if you do … then how can you afford not to purchase this data? A single sale or purchase can more than make these recaps worthwhile for any collector or dealer.
If you have further questions, or need the name’s and phone numbers of a few satisfied past users don’t hesitate to contact me. Email FoxLairAJ@aol.com or phone (956) 943-8409, I will be glad to answer any and all questions before or after you order.
December 31, 2003 was a Red Letter day for this project, because on this day we finally broke the 20,000 individual total sales noted and compiled for Mexican Republic Gold Coins from almost 4,000 sales catalogs and fixed price lists.
